A user signs up for your SaaS product with just an email: jane@acme.com. That is all you know. But with enrichment, you can infer:
One email address became a rich profile. Your sales team now knows this is a VP at a mid-size manufacturing company. Perfect fit for the enterprise plan. Without enrichment, they would send a generic onboarding email.
HubSpot enriches every new contact at signup time. Their sales team reports that enriched leads convert at 2x the rate of non-enriched leads because reps can personalize outreach immediately instead of spending 15 minutes researching each prospect manually.
Data enrichment adds new attributes to existing records by cross-referencing external data sources, APIs, or derived computations. It turns thin, incomplete data into rich, actionable information.
| Enrichment Type | What It Adds | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Demographic | Company size, industry, revenue | Clearbit, ZoomInfo, Apollo |
| Geographic | Country, city, timezone from IP | MaxMind, ipinfo.io |
| Firmographic | Company details from email domain | Clearbit, Hunter.io |
| Behavioral | Visit history, engagement score | Your own analytics + Segment |
| Social | Social profiles, follower count | LinkedIn API, Twitter API |
| Derived | Calculated from existing data | LTV from purchase history, churn risk from activity patterns |
| Reference | Standardized codes and classifications | SIC/NAICS industry codes, ISO country codes |
