What GPT-6.1 Sol is
“GPT-6.1 Sol is available starting today to all Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. GPT-6.1 Sol is not yet available in Chat.”
GPT-6.1 Sol is a large language model from OpenAI: a program that reads text (and images) and writes text back. People search for it as ChatGPT 6.1 Sol, because many first meet it inside ChatGPT, but the model's name is GPT-6.1 Sol.
OpenAI's GPT-6 family has three models at three price points. Luna is the cheap, fast one, which OpenAI calls its most efficient model. Astra is the one OpenAI calls its most intelligent. Sol sits in the middle. GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna came out on 22 September 2026. One week later, on 29 September, OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Sol as an upgrade to Sol. OpenAI's API changelog, its public list of changes, has the entry for that date.
OpenAI's own one-line summary is "Near-Astra performance for complex work at a lower cost." This means: almost as good as its best model on hard tasks, for much less money. Section 3 shows what OpenAI claims, with its numbers labelled as OpenAI's.
